School Garden Training

This comprehensive training program is designed specifically for educators, school administrators, and parent volunteers who want to establish or enhance school gardens as powerful educational tools. Learn how to create sustainable garden programs that align with curriculum standards and inspire students.

Training Curriculum:

  • Garden Planning for Educational Settings: Site assessment, design considerations for different age groups, accessibility, and safety.
  • Curriculum Integration: Connecting garden activities to science, math, language arts, social studies, art, and other subjects across grade levels.
  • Seasonal Planning: Developing year-round garden activities that align with both the academic calendar and growing seasons.
  • Garden Management Systems: Creating sustainable maintenance routines, student involvement strategies, and summer care solutions.
  • Funding and Support: Grant opportunities, community partnerships, and parent involvement to sustain your garden program.
  • Evaluation Methods: Assessing the impact of garden programs on student learning, engagement, and behavior.

Participants will engage in practical activities including:

  • Creating sample garden lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
  • Designing a school garden layout
  • Practicing basic garden skills (planting, watering, composting)
  • Developing a seasonal calendar for their specific school
  • Drafting a garden program proposal

Who Should Attend:

What to Bring:

Please bring a notebook, any existing school garden plans or ideas, and weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor activities. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
